SCIENTIFIC ASPECT OF SHIATSU
BENEFITS
THE MERIDIANS FEEDBACK

PURPOSE OF THE SESSION
............................................................................................

Shiatsu means to re-establish the balance in regions of excess or lack of energy throughout the body. Having always in mind that the physical manifestations and symptoms may not only be of stictly physical origins, but also mental, emotional and/or spiritual. For this purpose, different pressure techniques with fingers, hands and elbows are used. Through stretching and rotations techniques, stiff joints and muscles open up and release tension, making them more flexible and mobile.

A Shiatsu session is essentially a carefully controlled tactile environment. The aim is to evoke feeling states and mental response in addition to physical adjustments. This experience can break a vicious circle of discomfort, withdrawal, and subsequent
disability that may have been perpetuated for years. Pleasant peripheral sensations lead to - changes in inner feelings - changes in habitual attitudes - changes in the tone and functioning of muscles - more pleasant sensations.

These recent advances in neuroscience and cellular biology explain what TCM practitioners have known for thousands of years regarding the effectiveness of bodywork and shiatsu, in particular. Shiatsu affects the superficial and deep tissues, the fascial, myofascial, neuromuscular, musculoskeletal, circulatory, lymphatic, respiratory, digestive, eliminative, and craniosacral systems. In other words, shiatsu affects all our physiological processes, including emotions.

Shiatsu can be used as secondary or supportive therapy in recovery treatments after accidents and operations.

Some effects:

• Expansion and relaxation
• Balances energy
• Increases vitality
• Sensitizes
• Improves energy flow
• Stimulates the lymphatic and circulatory systems
• Increases and improves body awareness
• Strengthens the immune system

Shiatsu can support the following functions:

  • relaxation
  • movement
  • integration
  • connection
  • expancion
  • force
  • Stability.

For improvement and maintenance of health, the client must be aware to accept, confront and maybe change old patterns of behavior.

SCIENTIFIC ASPECT OF TOUCH
.............................................................................................

The connective tissue transmits the sensations generated by touch, which influence mental processes.

It is now understood that the expanding and contracting connective tissue is composed of liquid crystals that are sensitive to touch. These transmit information through piezo electric function (release of an electrical charge or energy). Energy is information.

Shiatsu affects the surface and deep tissues, the fascia, and the neuro-muscular, musculoskeletal, circulatory, lymphatic, respiratory, digestive and elimination systems. In other words, Shiatsu affects all physiological processes and therefore the emotions connected to these systems.

The techniques of repetitive pressure and release of Shiatsu generate tiny electrical discharges thereby increasing energy levels in the tissues. Using the right pressure helps correct the intracellular fluid congestion by releasing the amount needed of electrostatic to neutralize imbalance. Compression, releases tension and moves toxins stalled by disease, lack of use or trauma. The fascial structures network that covers the body is rebalanced while passing from a gelatinous state to a more fluid one.
